Another Run Away Infection (Bob Comis)

Bob Comis operates Stony Brook Farm in Schoharie New York where he and his wife pasture raise heritage breed pigs, lamb, goat and poultry. In his posts, Bob shares his thoughts on farming, regional food systems, and how it all could be better and different.

So, I spent Friday night in the emergency room and all day yesterday in bed with a run away infection, almost exactly one year after the same type of infection last July. This year the doctor sent me home with oral antibiotics that worked. Last year I had to spend two days in the hospital on IV antibiotics.

Given that I’ve gotten this type of infection twice now, and each time the source was cuts on my hand, it looks like I am going to need to wear gloves full time now. I need dexterity, so I am going to try out latex/nitrile gloves and see how they work.

This sort of infection is a real pain in the butt. First, they are dangerous, and second, your body is so busy fighting off the infection, you’ve got no energy. I spent the entire day, literally, in bed yesterday. I only got out of bed once or twice all day. Peter took care of the farm while Jen to care of me.

The good news is that I am now all caught up on True Blood and Stargate Universe.
